LASG sensitised Artisans on safety at Construction Site

The Lagos State Government has sensitised artisans and developers on the need to prioritise safety at construction sites.

The Director-General of Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr Lanre Mojola, who was represented by the Technical Adviser of the Commission, Mr. Seun Awojobi disclosed this on Tuesday during a workshop in Alausa, Ikeja.
The two-day training tagged: construction site safety, health and hygiene for 200 construction site workers was organised by Safety Commission in conjunction with Oloko Adenle and Sowemimo legal practitioners, and Association of Real Estate Developers of Lagos State.

Mojola said, “The real estate sector has recently been plagued with many mishaps, ranging from building collapse, to loss of lives and properties amongst others, hence the need to enlighten stakeholders on steps to take in ensuring safety at construction site.

According to him,“Safety is first should be our watchword in the site, construction sector is prone with high risk and infractions due to working at high rise buildings, heights, falling objects, lifting of heavy equipment, he said negligence can be cause loss of lives and property adding that safety of Lagosians is our utmost concern hence the need for continuous sensitisation of artisans, builders, developers and engineers to understand that safety cannot be compromised.”

Mr. Henry Eromosele Oigiangbe in his remarks, emphasis on the need for artisans on site should always put on appropriate personal, protective equipment I.e (safety helmets, safety boots, hand gloves and reflective jackets) while working on site to prevent avoidable fatal incidence.

The Eletu of ilado and inagbe land and Chairman Association of Real Estate Developers of Lagos State, Chief Adebiyi Lawal represented by the General Secretary, ( AREDOLS), Mr Olumegbon Olawale, explained that training is important for stakeholders as it will help prevent hazards on the job.

He said “This training will go a long way in assisting our workers because, accidents do happen anywhere and everywhere, we have many of it in the construction sector, we all need to take safety precautions and the first step is to be enlightened; we need requisite knowledge of those possible ways to protect and prevent ourselves from avoidable hazards on construction site; he applaud the government for the laudable program and implore them to do more sensitization on safety.
